ProxMox, a highly versatile virtulization solution:
I use ProxMox already a long time, from around version 7 somewhere. I like it a lot, its pretty simple and straight forward if you are familiar with the VMware vCenter GUI, you will find some resemblance. A simple pane on the left with a list of servers and if you click on em the details on the right.
Reasons why I like ProxMox:
- it runs on Debian - the universal OS.
- Technology: its simply qemu
- Technology: support for LXC (containers and prebuilds)
- Their sales model is very friendly, you can download and play with it for free and even use some repo's they provide for updates
- Feature rich, an full blown HA envrironment can be build pretty quickly
- Simplicity
- It just always works
- If you require support, you simply can rely on a support contract or reseller they have available.
- Or you can find your answer online, since there is a really lifely community out there.
Use Case:
I have build some pretty wild clusters with ProxMox. Clusters for example with only 2 nodes, shared storage over iScisi, joined in a virtual mdadm, which facilitates an NFS on both nodes in the same time
Since it is like a building block, you can hook it up to Foreman, call the API and do lots of things with it to automate all your virtual needs
